According to Jim Reed who wrote the article in my book on the Lannings, Joseph Lanning was the third son of Abraham Lanning and Nancy Edwards. Abraham and Nancy were married in Jefferson County Ohio on Dec. 8, 1814. Abraham and Nancy moved to Missouri between 1841 and 1843. Abraham was one of the sons of Richard Lanning and Anna (Innskeep?). This Richard Lanning was one of the 5 sons of Richard Lanning and Julia Miller.
