Two sons of Conrad Lanning who died 14 March 1849 in Herkimer Co., NY were listed as living in Sugar Grove Twp., Warren Co., PA. Their names were Robert and Jesse Lanning. On the 1850 Census of Warren County, PA, the following names were listed: Robert Lanning, 43, M, farmer, born NY: Elizabeth Lanning, 43,F, born NY: Coonrod Rouland, 19, M, Laborer, born NY; Sarah M. Rouland, 17, F, born NY NOTE: A sister of Jesse and Robert named Sally was married to a man named William Rowland in Herkimer Co., NY. Jesse Laning, 40, M, farmer, born NY; Mariah Lanning, 41, F, born NY; William J. Lanning, 15, M, born NY; Luccella C. Lanning, 6, F, born NY.
In 1880, the death of Jesse Lanning is recorded in Warren County. he is reported as leaving a widow, Mariah, but no children. The widow appointed W.W. Wilbur as the executor, and renounced her rights as same.
I would appreciate hearing from anyone concerning the individuals above listed. I am attempting to prove the parentage of Richard C. Lanning, my great grandfather, who came from Town of Russia, Herkimer County, NY, and first went to Sugar Grove Twp, thereafter settling in Eldred Twp., Warren County, PA. Richard married Susan Woodard and together they produced seven children. One of their sons, Martin Laning, became my grandfather. Gordon A. Sutton
