Thank you for the Lanier information. I haven't been able to get hold of a copy of the Ingersoll book yet(I'm hoping to find one in a genealogy library) so I always pleased to add bits of info from other folks generosity.
As I think I posted previously, I descend from Cynthia Ann Lanier, the third child of John Henry Lanier and his first wife, Louisa Bess. This Cynthia married Emory Garner. They had at least 6 children (including my g-grandmother, Emma Lee Garner Nicks).
My mother (now 74) has a few memories of Cynthia Lanier Garner (she was at her bedside when she died). She was a small woman with long white hair which she wore piled high on her head.
I have assumed that John Henry named his daughter after his sister.
John Henry served in the Confederate Army - I have a copy of his pension application file.If you are interested in a copy I would be glad to send to you.Lots of the GA Laniers ended up in Florida after the war.
