Update on Lanier DNA Project

Hello, fellow Lanier researchers,

The DNA results for the second Lanier male participant who descends from Sampson Lanier have returned from the lab and his DNA matches the DNA of the first Lanier male participant who also descends from Sampson Lanier. DNA has proven that these two men are very distant cousins and the yDNA profile of Nicholas Lanier has now been established. Here is a link to the DNA chart where you can look at the DNA of the two descendants of Nicholas Lanier: https://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/l/lanier/results.html

Here is a link to the Patriarchs Page where you can look at their Lanier pedigrees:

The haplogroup of these two descendants of Nicholas Lanier is E3b1, which is considered to be a Mediterranean haplogroup. This is totally consistent with an origin in southern France or Italy. Here is a description of Haplogroup E3b1 from the Family Tree DNA website:

This haplogroup probably originated in eastern Africa and is about 25,000 years old. It expanded into the Mediterranean during the Pleistocene Neolithic expansion. It is currently distributed around the Mediterranean, southern Europe, and in north and east Africa.

I hope that more male Lanier men will now consider joining the project to discover whether they descend from Nicholas Lanier or perhaps from a different Lanier immigrant. In her book "Lanier", Louise Ingersoll wrote that there were several other men named Lanier who immigrated to the New World, and she was never able to establish whether or not they were related to Nicholas Lanier.

Sincerely,
Nancy Kiser
