Lemuel Lanier, Brunswick County Virginia 1765, and his mother

I found a deed in Brunswick County Virginia written in 1765 in which Lemuel Lanier made a gift of two slaves, Beck and Cate, to John Peoples, grandfather to Lemuel's daughters Molly Lanier and Sally Lanier, to be used for their support. The reference is Brunswick County Deed Book 8, page 29.

On page 28 of Deed Book 8, Lemuel sold negroes to David Peoples. Lemuel also deeded property on pages 77, 96, and 98 of that book for which I did not make notes.

In Brunswick County Deed Book 9 page 34, in 1767 "Elizabeth Lanier, late of the collony of Virginia, county of Brunswick" gave power of attorney "to my son Lemuel Lanier". I did not see any indication of where Elizabeth resided when the instrument was created.

Who was Elizabeth's husband and Lemuel's father?

Mary Erwin
