Lanier DNA Project

Hello, Lanier researchers,

My name is Nancy Kiser and I just volunteered to be the administrator of the Lanier DNA Project which is being hosted by Family Tree DNA. I have a Lanier line that descends from John Lanier who emigrated from England to Virginia in the 1650s. John Lanier was the probable grandson of Nicholas Lanier as described in the Lanier book by Ingersoll.

I became very interested in the use of DNA analysis combined with traditional genealogical research about two years ago. I have gotten my brother and several of my male cousins from different lines tested and their yDNA has helped solve many genealogical mysteries for me. It has been a really fascinating journey.

I would like to invite any and all male Laniers to join the Lanier DNA Project and get their yDNA tested. The DNA test is painless and only involves swabbing the inside of the cheek to obtain cheek cells for analysis. The lab mails a kit to you and you return your samples by mail. Your name is kept confidential and you are only identified by kit number.

Family Tree DNA is offering Holiday discounts on certain DNA tests through the end of the year. You can save $15 on a 25 marker test and $30 on a 37 marker test. You have to order the test through a group administrator to obtain the discount, so if you are interested in getting tested, please contact me. I hope all Laniers will get as excited as I am about the possibilities of DNA analysis!

Sincerely,
Nancy Kiser
