You will find the Sterling Lanier Family on the 1860 Blount County ,TN Census. The Laniers owned a hotel at Montvale Springs. Sidney Lanier spent summers here as a teenager. He was a grandson of one of the owners. The Sidney ,age 1, on the 1860 census is not the poet. He was born in 1842.Here's the listing:
