Major-General Sir John Lanier's detachment quartered at Glenavy, and Cupples writes that they were "well treated by the inhabit-ants." A chalice was given in acknowledgment of this treatment. It is of silver and bears the inscription, "This plate was given to the church of Glenavy by the officers of the Queen's regiment of horse, commanded by the Hon. Major-General Sir John Lanier. in the year 1690. in honorem Ecclesiae Anglicanae (in honor of the Anglican Church).
