Hi Phil, and thank you for responding to my post. The major question I have concerns the Shadrack Mills family as found in the 1830 Dale County AL Federal Census. (first page, I believe... but I also have noted it is p. 217a for online images) The Census day was June 1, 1830, and the time allotted for this census was 12 months. There is 1 male 5-10; 1 male 10-15; 1 male 20-30; and 1 male 40-50. The females are: 1 age 10-15; 2 age 15-20; and 1 age 50-60. To your knowledge, are all of the enumerated individuals in his household accounted for? Shadrack Mills' neighbor, John O'Neal, had a daughter Rachel, whom my Wesley D. Carter (b. abt 1807-1812) married about 1833. The names of three of their children in particular (Lanier, Lemuel, and Leonard) suggest some sort of CARTER connection to both the Lanier AND Mills families. In South Carolina Marriages 1800-1820, I found reference to a marriage between Wm. CARTER and Margaret MILLS, May 3, 1803, published in the Bryan Journal (?) No county was noted, and I do not know if this couple ties in with your family. As of now, I do not know who Wesley's folks were... if they were alive in 1830... or if Wesley was traveling alone to Alabama... or perhaps with another family. In 1830 Wesley would have been about 18-23 years old. The census shows one male 20-30 in the Mills household, and if this is not a MILLS --if Shadrack Mills had no sons of that age-- then there is the possibility that PERHAPS this could be Wesley. Here's hoping! --Anita
