Hi Sandra,

Yes the name is Lanier, although in this particular deed you reference, the spelling is Lanyer. Many times I've noticed deeds where the persons name was spelled like it sounded to the Clerk.

1712 Prince George...John Mason witnessed deed Thomas Chappel to John Lanyer. Land in Waynoak Parish.

Being a descendant of John Mason above, I had the partial copy of the same deed in my files.

John Lanier's will dated January 5, 1717 and proved April 1719, Prince George Co. VA lists sons: Robert, John, Sampson, Grandson John the son of Nicholas Lanier and son Nicholas Lanier.
