Writing Chest belonging to Jack Langton

Five or six years ago, my husband and I bought a walnut writing box from an antique dealer. Inscribed on a brass plate mounted in the top of the chest is "Jack Langston From the 'Tyro' 13th March 1907". According to the dealer, the desk is one typically used on a ship. Does anyone have any information on an individual by this name of this period and/or a ship named Tyro?
