Are these the canal Langtons? I'm trying to find out what connection they had to the MEADOWS family of Lydiate. The family story is that my great-grandfather and his brother went to work for the Langtons on the canal after the death of their mother who was an ALTY before marriage. I know Ellen Alty married James Langton in 1878 - was her father Thomas a brother to Catherine and Elizabeth Alty? (Elizabeth married Edward Aspinall and they worked the Rochdale canal). Apologies if that's a bit complicated. Regards, Catherine.
