I'm very new to this...but have been doing a little research into my Langley family tree. Family lore has it that John Langley founded the town of Vernon, Ohio (originally Smithfield, OH on a map from the 1700's--Smithfield was crossed out and Vernon written in--CT Historical Society)with a man named John Smith prior to 1803.Vernon is in Trumbull County Ohio the next county north of Mahoning County--it also borders Pennsyvlania.Supposedly he walked from a place called Black Horse Tavern Maryland. Quite a walk!Anyway there have been Langleys in Vernon since then.Trumbull and Mahoning Counties in Ohio are part of the CT Western Reserve--of which much is written.
