In answer to your Langley/orphans in St. Joe; this is what I found. I did this research for a Mr. Langley in Kansas City. The 1880 census had listed the Langley children: Minnie 11 born 1869 charge; Sallie (Lillie?) 9 born 1871 patient; Dora 7 born 1873 patient; and George 5 born 1874 patient. They were listed as living in a 'HOME FOR THE FERIENDLESS' orphanage in St. Joe. George was "hired" from the orphanage by a Elijah "Eli" P. Anderson to work on the farm. Later George married Eli's youngest daughter Lula. (So George must have been there for awhile.) I could not find information on Minnie or Sallie, but did Dora). ALSO, the History Book of 1881 stated the orphanage started in 1874.. I did not have very good luck with the society there either as they didn't seem to have very much. This is all the information I was able to find on the early years of the Langley children. Sorry I can't be of more help.
