w langley,
My dad served in the 561st Field Artillery. In 2004, I learned they have annual reunions.I attended in 2004 and this year, 2005.There were 6 living veterans in attendance in 2004.When I got home I resolved to find as many living veterans as I could above the 20-25 that were already known about. Thus my message board posting.
I've found 10 living veterans in the last 1.5 years.I've also found about 24-25 sets of descendants or families of deceased veterans , as is the case with your grandfather.
All of the living veterans I've found wanted to be added to the reunion mail list to receive info on when and where a reunion will be held. Some of the family members of deceased veterans were added to the mail list after being asked if they wanted to be added; some didn't want to be on the list, either case is okay.
Bottom line for all this is to continue honoring those men who served our country.
I have some information on your grandfather, but before I share that with anyone, can you tell me the year of your grandfather's birth, and which state he was born in.
I've had a few people claiming to be family of a deceased veteran when in fact they weren't.Why they wanted to do such a thing, I don't have the vaguest idea. That's why I ask for something to confirm that you are who you say you are before I share any information or sources that I have.
Thanks for posting your message about your grandfather.
