Dona,
Thanks for the information - now things are making a little more sense.Because Moses died first, and Wiley had a son named Moses, my (erroneous) assumption was that the elder Moses was Wiley's father. It makes perfect sense (now) that Thomas, son of Wiley and nephew of the elder Moses, provided the list of heirs to the court. There were only 4 Langley men in Moniteau County in 1846 - Moses, his brother (Wiley), and Wiley's two sons - Thomas and Moses. When the elder Moses died, that left Wiley as the eldest Langley male, and he wouldn't have been in a position to list the heirs of Moses since he was one of them. That left only Wiley's two sons to provide the information to the court, and Thomas was the elder son.
You said Wiley married Sarah Langley (I'm assuming Langley wasn't her maiden name) 9 Jun 1908 in Johnson Co., GA.Should that have been 1809?
Were Moses and Wiley the sons of the Thomas Langley who died about 1803 in Caswell County, NC?
I was aware that the younger Moses married Mary (Polly) Hightower because I fell into the Langleys via the Hightowers.Polly was my gr gr grandmother's sister. The Hightowers were also in Caswell County, NC.Some Hightowers even purchased items from the estate of Thomas Langley.Several of Polly's older siblings were born in Caswell County, and then the family moved to Patrick County, VA.From there they went to MO.
The cholera epidemic makes sense and doesn't surprise me.Polly (Hightower) Langley had a sister, brother-in-law, and brother all die between 1840 and 1850, plus Moses Langley died in 1846 and Thomas Langley died in 1847.
Please see my message #909 on this list dated 4 Nov 2000.I now know the Moses/Wiley/Thomas relationships were out of kilter, but the other information is good.I think you may find some pretty interesting stuff there, if you haven't already seen it.
When I was in Moniteau County in October I found a marriage record for an Andrew Langley of Callaway County to Emmie Reeves on 21 Jan 1902.I'm assuming this is part of your line of Langleys.I did not find a Moniteau record for Polly Langley to Mr. Collet (see msg #909.)
The old homestead and family cemetery are on private property.I'll email you directly with information on where they're located, plus I have a couple of pictures I can attach to the message.
