I've been out of pocket and just now read your message. The sources you asked about are listed under "bibliography" at the top of the page. Interesting enough, Mr. Litten did not give any indication of just how he thought Beverly was the wife. I wrote to D.C.Shouter (of rankin) asking for an e-mail address for Thomas Litten. Mr. Shouter said he was still living and could be reached at But, as luck would have it, my e-mail bounced at that address. Like you, I have been researching this family for about 10 years, to settle upon Mary's last name, and this was the first person I'd found who agreed with me that it was (probably) Mary Beverly. I can't prove it. The naming patters support a Beverly mother, but I'm a long way from getting to where I need to be. There is a strong case for the Rice name, too. But mainly, I was very impressed with Mr. Litten's work on the family's history........I just got hung up on his Beverly research. Maybe soon, I'll find an address for him and see if he'll share his source for that marriage.
