Thanks very much for your interesting & informative post!

A few comments:

Here is a transcription of the TWO deeds in Gloucester Co VA for NICHOLAS LANGFORD and his wife KATHERINE. Note that the second deed refers to "her dowery part of land sold":

"1690 Power of Attorney deed Nicholas Langford of Abington Parish, Gloucester Co VA, appoints Leonard Chamberlaine attorney to acknowledge deed for 350 acres in Rappahannock Co sold by said Langford and his wife KATHERINE to Thomas Watkins of Rappahannock County. Nov 3, 1690"

"1690 Power of Attorney deed KATHERINE LANGFORD appoints Mr Robert Colman to acknowledge sale of her dowery part of land sold to Watkins Nov 10, 1690"

Interesting that KATHERINE appointed a different person than the attorney her husband chose to handle the sale of the land. This is what makes me suspect that part of the land sold had been bequeathed to her or given to her husband as part of a dowry arrangement.

The DNA study looks very interesting, but I haven't had time to look at it properly, so won't comment.

HENRY LANGFORD who married Martha Patsy Pace and who is mentioned in the DNA study does not appear to be related to my particular branch of Langfords in Greenville SC, but will have to go back & check my records to verify.

My gggg grandfather HENRY LANGFORD Sr was apparently the son of NICHOLAS LANGFORD (Jr?) b abt 1700 VA & JUDITH unknown who lived in Pittsylvania/Henry Co VA.

"NICHOLAS LANGFORD (Jr ?) Will returned to court May 27, 1779 Henry Co Va (which was previously Pittsylvania Co VA); wife Judith, sons ELI, ROBERT & HENRY as executors."

ROBERT LANGFORD can be found in Surry Co NC as early as 1782, with his brother (my ancestor) HENRY LANGFORD Sr.

ROBERT LANGFORD is listed in 1790 Greenville Co SC census, but HENRY LANGFORD Sr apparently was still in NC.

Sometime aft 1792 HENRY's brother ELI LANGFORD purchased land from HENRY in Franklin Co GA, the deed noting that Henry was "of Greenville County, South Carolina."

HENRY LANGFORD Sr died sometime around 1794. He does not appear in the 1800 Greenville Co SC census.

If I think of anything else, I'll let you know. I can provide source documentation for the information above, if you need it.

Yours, Betty T
