Joy,

Your message was appreciated, but as you state, is a long shot. I will provide some of the information on the Lange's next week.
Herman August Sr. was born in 1863 and I believe that was in Germany. I believe I have some of the family names in this time frame.
From about 1845 on, most immigrants had to have a sponsor here in the U.S., so you raise a good point with a brother. But Herman August settled along the Hudson, in Germantown, for a reason. Either another brother, cousin or uncle was up there.
We don't know when exactly he came to the U.S., but my mother seems to think he was from the Hamburg area.
We don't know much about the family beyond my mother and father. We never knew anything about relatives of the 19th century. Will get back to you next week.
Ray
