Hi Jim

Ihave only recently started on trying to find my ancestors and believe that we may be related. I hope that you are still around and that you get this message ! I believe that Elizabeth's brother Thomas born 1831 in Co.Longford is my great grandfather. My great grandfather was born in Ireland in 1831 and his father was Michael. Michael Langan of Co. Longford and his wife Rose McGaren or McGavin are the only parents who match. I know from trawling the internet that Michael and Rose together with some of their children ( Rose, Patrick,Michael etc) went to live in the U.S. I don"t see that their son Thomas went with them. I think he went to England and settled in West Ham where he married my Great grandmother Catherine Megan (or Magen or McGan)in 1858. They had 2 children in England Mary Ann and Thomas my grandfather who was only 1 year old when the family emigrated to New Zealand. They settled in Auckland and had 2 further children William and Alice all of whom have of course died as also have my father Thomas Leslie (Les)and his sister Rita. So I have no family stories to rely on for any family history.

It would be nice to know that I had family in America and thatwe are related.

If perchance any one else reads this message who knows if my Thomas Langan is the son of Michael and Rose Langan from Co. Longford and Brooklyn New York, I would love to hear from you. I think that there must also be other children of theirs who did not settle in the U.S. I would like to hear from them as well

By the way whilst he was in England my great grandfather changed the spelling of his surname as I gather many did. He got married in 1858 in Stratford Church West Ham as Langan but in the 1861 U.K. Census he spelt his surname Langham.

Hoping to hear from you or anyone who can help me

Kate Langham
