Grace Osborne Lane, 81, of Fairfax, VA, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 26, 2008 with her family by her side. Born September 21, 1927, in Castlewood, VA, she moved to Lynn Garden, Kingsport, Sullivan co TN, at an early age. She graduated from Sullivan High School in 1944. She worked for Mason Dixon Lines as a stenographer for five years prior to her marriage to Ira D. Lane. She and her family accompanied her husband to Naval stations in various locations in San Diego, CA, Annapolis, MA, Columbus, OH, Adak, AK, and Washington, DC. They have resided in Fairfax for 42 years. Grace was married to Ira D. Lane of Kingsport for 61 years. Grace will be remembered for her commitment to her family and friends. As a devoted mother, she was active in school functions and activities, volunteering her time and serving as a homeroom mother for each of her children. Grace was an active member of the community all of her life. She supported the neighborhood swim team for many years, which contributed to her love of the sport. Grace also enjoyed reading poetry, particularly the works for Robert Frost, doing crossword puzzles, hiking, exploring national battlefield parks, league bowling, and traveling. Grace was preceded in death by her parents, Creed and Goldie Osborne; sister, Dorothy Olterman; brother, Paul Osborne; and infant son, Danny. Grace leaves behind her husband, Ira D. Lane; four daughters, Mary Ann Lane of Fairfax, VA, Susan Marilley and husband, James of Huntington Beach, CA, Carol Miller of Fairfax, VA, and Annie Stinnett and husband, David of Johnson City, TN; two sons, Boyd Lane of Fairfax, VA, and Ned Lane and wife, Tracy of Ashburn, VA; eight grand- children, Katie Marilley, Julie Miller, Robert, Rachel, Rebecca and Joe Stinnett, Chris and Shannon Lane; three great-grandchildren, Angelynn, Ayden, and Aeric Miller; four sisters, Floy Bostic of Surgoinsville, Marjorie Beuris of Church Hill, Blanche Harvey of Kingsport, Lynn Adair and husband, Grady of Madeira Beach, FL. The family will receive family and friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Saturday, November 1, 2008 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow with Reverend Aaron Pierce officiating.
