Hello, Tonya:
I am not sure if I can help, but here is the story as I believe it happened.....
Rosanna (sic) was either a Menser or Esmond. As a girl of 16 she bore a child (out of wedlock?) which she named John B. Lanthrip (sic, again). An old family story I got from the McKnight book said something about Thomas, son of Shadrick and Catherine (Croft)Lantrip, as a young boy getting "some girl" in trouble. They sent him to a family member in Hopkins Co. till it blew over. The girl, Rosanna, had the son, married Oza McKnight, and moved to Mississippi, not necessarily in that order. At any rate....John B. Lanthrip named his first son, my great-grandfather, Thomas Y. Lanthrip. John was married to Mary Chrismond (again, sic)daughter of John B. Chrismond. Thomas Y. Lanthrip married Josephine H. Sides and they had my grandmother Virginia Josephine Lanthrip who married my grandpa Robert Henry Heflin and had my dad, Otho Henry Heflin. My mother (who is almost 95) remembers Virginia Josephine (called Virgie) as a real feisty woman with a first rate temper...Of course mom was only 15 when she md my dad, and only 19 when her mother-in-law died. Thomas Y., however, is remembered fondly as a kind man who came to visit when my oldest sister was born, and let her play with his false teeth. I was fortunate recently to get a copy of a picture of Thomas Y. Lanthrip with Lon Chrismond, uncle of the gal who sent it to me.
As to Rosanna, I always felt she was a Menser not an Esmond, but really don't know. The only thing I can prove is that Thomas Y. was my ggfather, and son of John B. Lanthrip. Many of these folks are buried at Enon Cemetery in Ackerman MS. I got lots of pictures when there last month. If you'ld like to see some of them, I will send you an invitation to the family site.
Hope this isn't too confusing. Remember, anything before John B. Lanthrip is speculation.
Edith
