There was a William Brown(born early-mid-1600s or so, apparently) in Old Rappahannock/Essex Co., VA who appears to have married three times. One of his three wives was Elizabeth Allen, and she was a daughter of Valentine Allen and Mary Page. A daughter of that William Brown (via one of his wives) named Mary Brown married a JAMES LANDRUM.
There was a JOHN LANDRUM who was over in Spotsylvania Co., VA by at least the 1720s, and he had another/later/younger William Brown was his "indentured servant"....and that younger William Brown sued for his "freedom dues" from John Landrum in the late-1720s. I would not be too surprised if that younger William Brown was a grandson of the "first" William Brown mentioned above, via the son of the "first" William Brown who was named William Brown, Junior. William Brown, Junior married Margaret Cloutson, and they did, in fact, have a son of their own who was also named William Brown (or so I am told by a researcher of that particular Brown family).
The above "third" William Brown who was the indentured servant for John Landrum in Spotsylvania Co., VA MIGHT very well have been (per some clues) the same William Brown who:
a) was a witness on a deed in Spotsylvania Co., VA in the later-1720s, where a John and Jane (Mallory) Quarles bought some land there,
b) helped to appraise the estate of Abraham Brown in Caroline Co., VA in 1735 (that Abraham Brown was apparently from a different/unrelated Brown family, but Abraham Brown had also lived in Essex Co., VA and then Spotsylvania/Orange Co., VA before moving to Caroline Co., VA).
c) was on jury duty a few times in the 1730s in Caroline Co., VA (as was a Roger Quarels, who was related to the above-mentioned John Quarles) and
d) moved to Amelia/Prince Edward Co., VA by 1740 (that William Brown was married to an Elizabeth Unknown, and they had a son who was named John C. (Cloutson, perhaps?) Brown who married an Elizabeth Atkins in 1756).
Do you by chance know the exact relationship between the James Landrum who married Mary Brown in Essex Co., VA and the John Landrum who was in Spotsylvania Co., VA by the 1720s? By the way, a "branch" of my Davidson family in Amherst Co., VA married into the Landrum family there. Thanks.
