With regard to the Joseph Landrum, wife Mary mentioned in the Genforum message 1538 that you reference in your message number 1918:
A.Most of Shedd’s book concerns the alleged ancestors and the descendants of this Joseph Landrum, and therefore would be difficult to summarize.
B.His discussion of Mary, the wife of Joseph, is much more limited. He mentions her on page 105.In a footnote he explains that the information on Mary came from a compilation by Cleveland Landrum (1885-1966), a gg grandson of Joseph.Shedd quotes Cleveland as saying that Mary was the second wife of Joseph.Elaborating, Cleveland is said to have claimed Mary was not his gg grandmother, and had six children – four girls and two boys. The boys were identified as Uncle Jeptha and “our” g grandfather Larkin.
Shedd goes on to explain that the statement is self contradictory in saying that Mary was the mother of Larkin, but ‘not our gg grandmother’.He says that aside from this contradiction, the compilation has ‘other errors’ which make it unreliable.Shedd does not identify the “other errors” on which he bases his judgment.
Hope this helps.
