Hi Ted & Naomi,
Yes, the Lumpkin name did come from the Lumpkins of Oglethorpe Co, GA. In my own line of Landrums---which includes John Lumpkin Landrum--here is how the Landrums and Lumpkin connected: John Lumpkin Landrum (his parents were Jabez "Jabe"R. Landrum & Mary A. Raiden) was the nephew of my 3rd great-grandfather, Francis "Frank" Marion Landrum. Frank married Sarah "Sallie" Elizabeth Davis. She was the daughter of William Joel Davis and Angelina Lumpkin, who was the daughter of Rev. George Lumpkin and Sarah Pope. Rev. George was the brother of GA. Gov. Wilson Lumpkin, Hon. Joseph Henry Lumpkin, William Lumpkin, John "Jack" Lumpkin, Henry Hopson Lumpkin, Samuel Lumpkin, Martha Lumpkin, Robert Lumpkin, Thomas Jefferson Lumpkin, and James Nevel Lumpkin. All were the children of John Lumpkin and Lucy ELizabeth Hopson of Oglethorpe Co., Georgia. There are other connectins such as the Landrum-Milner-Lumpkin as well---all of Oglethorpe Co. You can see all of this on my website: http://www.piedmontsoftware.com/sandy/genealogy.htmhttp://www.piedmontsoftware.com/sandy/genealogy.htmI hope this helps. :o) Sincererly, Sandy L. Landrum-Kelly :o)
