The genealogy of my Landon line (including the Landon/Carter marriage and a note on the Harrison descent).is to be seen in the 1972 edition of Burke's ENGLISH LANDED GENTRY: "LANDON formerly OF MONNINGTON STRADDLE AND CREDENHILL" [in Herefordshire]. It only goes back to 1555. But other researchers have discovered evidence that the Herefordshire Landons crossed over to Britain from CHATEAULANDON, in N.W. France, in the 13th century, to take part in the Anglo-Norman conquest of Wales. And they were rewarded for their contribution with lands in Herefordshire which is situated on the Anglo/Welsh border.

In the 16th and early-17th century, some French "huguenot" (= Protestant) refugee Landons crossed over to, and settled in, England also.
Also,in the 17th century, both some Herefordshire and some huguenot Landons came over and settled here in North America. My 6 x g-grandfather got into political trouble in England in the 1680's, turned his land in England over to his eldest son (my 5 x g-grandfather) and fled over to Virginia with his younger children, including Elizabeth who m. Robert "King" Carter. Most Landons here in the South are probably descendants of his younger son, St. Leger Landon, who came over with him.
