The Homer Illinois Historical Society is publishing a history of Homer Illinois in 2005. We are studying the early settlers of the area and are seeking information on the Lander Family. John and Sophia W. Lander built a home on the Salt Fork Creek in Vermilion County Illinois after October 1830. Their daughters married James S. Wright of Homer (Catherine), William Elliott of Homer (Margaret) and John B. Thomas (Elizabeth).
One account has the home as being built by James F. Lander. In any case Lander died in August 1837 and is buried in a private burial ground.
We are interested in any information on this family. We do see one John and Lucy Lander living in Homer in 1850 with Juliet Lander. John is 28 and luliet is 18. We do not know if they are related but John was born in Kentucky.
