Land Surname DNA Project Update A little over 2 years ago we started the Land Surname DNA Project in hope of breaking through many of those Land brick walls that were obstructing our research. We now have 30 participants from all over the country plus Canada and England. The objective of DNA testing has always been to compare results with other participants and in the event of a match to discover who the common ancestor was. We are on our way to one great success story. We have 11 participants who previously were not known to each other, whose DNA test results match. They now know that they all share a common ancestor probably in the 1500’s in England. They are now communicating with each other in an attempt to sort out their lines and merge them to that common ancestor. Because of this we are hoping to find more participants from England to test. You can see the entire project results and the Comparison Chart for the 11 participants that match at www.fchsc.org/land.html As you will see, there are many other Lands in our project that have tested but that have no matches yet. Because of this we need to encourage more participation. In closing, I would like to encourage all male Lands to test. If you have your line documented back to a 16th, 17th , or 18th century ancestor, all the more reason to test, and allow others to see if they tie into your lineage. If you are a female Land, I encourage you to find a male Land relative to test and join in the pursuit of our elusive Land ancestors. If you have any specific questions please contact me off line at djmill@earthlink.net Thanks for your consideration, Doug Miller (great-great-grandson of John S.
