I am descended from Francis Land of Lower Norfolk County, VA. I don't have proof he was the son of Sir Francis Land of Devonshire, England but it has been suggested by several researchers. According to my research, he came to Virginia around 1630. He was a planter and a lawyer according to court records. He served as a vestryman and a church warden (Lynnhaven Parish) from 1646-47.

In 1639, he made some remarks against Adam Thorowgood, a prominent resident. The Lower Norfolk Court ordered him to perform church penance (standing at Sunday services in a white cloth and begging forgiveness of the injured party). This information was obtained from court records and is also recorded in a book called "Norfolk, the First Four Centuries."

The home of one of his descendents, called "The Francis Land House," is one of several old Princess Anne County (formerly known as Lower Norfolk County) homes on the Nat'l Register of Historic Homes maintained by the Assn for Va Antiquities.

This is all I have on him. I hope it helps.
