LAUNCE in Jamaica + Campbells
Posted by: David Arathoon (ID *****9636) Date: December 27, 2005 at 19:17:08

I am searching for any Launce family that left England and were planters in Jamaica,...I have a John and Anne Launce b c 1700 living in Jamaica.
Their name is spelt Launce and they would have been very rich people with plantations and big homes. There may also be a brother/ father named William Launce.

Any Jamaica Launce connections, please let me know.

My Launce married into the Campbell family who were huge plantation owners; my ancestor Anne Launce married Dugald Campbell of Salt Spring Plantation. They are my direct grtxxxxx grandparents and I am hoping to find their English connection.

Also these Campbells did business in Virginia, firstly unloading convicts and 2ndly back loading tobacco. They are connected to the Claibornes of Virginia as well
ie Major John Campbell of Blackriver Jamaica, married
Katherine Claiborne, daughter of the famous Leonard.

Campbells were amongst the first Scottish families to leave the new formed 'united kingdom' and keep plantations elsewhere. They were related to the
Argyll Earls and Dukes and my line closely related to the Bligh's...as in Adm Sir William Bligh, Shakspear's,
Glover's of Norfolk, Pascoe's of Cornwall.

All these are clues that pertain to my Launce history so the reason I mention them.

sincerely David
