There's a possible match in the 1920 census, Black River, Independence Co, AR:
LANCE, John F. age 48 b. AR both parents b. AR occ Farmer
wife S. Alice age 49 b. AR
son B.F. age 11 b. AR
dau Lori Anne (?) age 9 b. AR
mother-in-law COCHRAN, Jane age 69, divorced, b. AR

In the 1900 census there's a John F. Lance, age 24, born March 1876, married 5 yrs, living in the household of his mother, Luesinda Lance, in Black River. I am guessing that this is your John Lance, and that although the divorce wasn't until 1901, in 1900 they were already living apart.

I can not find him in 1910. Do you have his family traced back? They are still in Black River in 1880:
Lance, William age 35 b. AR
wife Lucinda age 27 b. AR
dau Mary Jane age 11 b. AR
son John F. age 9 b. AR
dau Rosan E. age 5 b. AR
dau Julia C. age 3m b. AR

His age is off a little to jive with the 1900 census, but lines up better with 1920.
