York Co., Virginia, Book III, Wills, Deeds, and Orders Pages 34, Dated Sept. 10, 1658...Robert Clarke & Lancaster Orphan's (Gowan Lancaster's Children), gives an account of the cattle of Robert Lancaster, Elizabeth and Anne Lancaster. Robert Lancaster, 2 cows & 2 heifers, Elizabeth lancaster, 4 cows and 2 calves, Anne Lancaster, 3 cows. One heifer strayed and Clarke to find it. (signed by Robert Clark. (Clarke was in possesion of these childrens property to care for until they come of age.) Page 33, Power is given to Mr. William Morley, guardian of Ann Lancaster, daughter of Gowin Lancaster, dec'd. To dispose of 3 cows of hers and the mark of cows of his own for her by reason that the orphan cannot without great trouble & hazard be kept at her pen, and be to give bond with security. Page 47, dated Feb. 24, 1658...This court has reference to the management and sole ordering of that part of the Estate of Gowin Lancaster, deceased as belongeth to the children to Mr. John (Hansford?)or (Hayward?), and Mr. Edmond Peeters to come to the next court. August 24, 1659...Mr. Edmond Peeters is by choice of Robert Lancaster, appointed said Robert's guardian, and is to be posest of his estate, but Robert to have his produce and benefit of his own labor. Sept. 10, 1659...Account of Cattle of Children of Gowin Lancaster, Robert Lancaster, 2 cows, 2 heifers, 1 cow calf. Elizabeth, 4 cows, 2 heifers. signed Thomas Heynes. Sept. 10, 1659, Ann Lancaster, orphan of Gowin Lancaster, 3 cows, 3 calves, signed William Morley. Sept. 11. 1660, Cattle of Anne Lancaster, daughter of John Lancaster, by William Morley. (Was he John Gowin Lancaster, wonder why the mess up in the court record, could John and Gowin be related?) I included these two deeds as well, as they are clearly connected to Robert Lancaster, son of Gowin Lancaster. York Co., Virginia records 1672-1676... Feb. 24, 1671/72...Robert Lancaster of New Kent, to David Crafford of West Hundred, planter, for 400 lbs. tobacco, all the seat of land in Hampton Parish, York Co., bounding west on Felgates Creek, a mile into the woods, with houses, edifices, etc. Witnessed, William Swinnerton, John Baskervyle, signed Robert (his mark)Lancaster, Recorded Feb. 26, 1671/72. York Co., Va, Deeds, Orders, Wills, Etc. No. 8, 1687-1691...page 155-157 Dated Sept. 24, 1688. Joseph ring of Hampton Parish, York Co., VA, Gentlemen, and Sarah his wife ot Edward Fuller of Gloster County, planter. for 10,000 pounds of tobacco. Seat of land in hampton parish bounding westerly on filgates Creek runing thence easterly a mile into the woods, southerly bounding on the land lately belonging to thomas Morland, deceased and northerly on Mr. Edmond Peeters as by deed Feb. 24, 1671/72 made betweene Robert Lancaster and David Crawford, the bounds of which land being further certifyed and expressed by marked trees on the back of the deed, dated march 3, 1673/74, which said seat of land was by Joseph Ring purchased of David Crawford by an assignment Feb. 30, 1682/83. signed Joseph Ring, Sarah Ring Witnessed, William Sedgwicke, Edmond Dodd, Isaac Sedgwick. I've just returned from a wonderful vacation, which most of the time I spent in the Virginia & North Carolina Archives, and several surrounding county library's.
