Alice Brockberg was born on October 19, 1927, on a farm in Rock County, Minnesota near Hardwick, to Harry and Ella Lamp Thorson. She was baptized and confirmed at the Blue Mound Lutheran Church. She grew up on the family farm and attended country school District # 48 and graduated from Luverne High School in 1945. Alice worked as a telephone operator in the Twin Cities. On April 11, 1948, she and LeRoy Brockberg were married at St. John's Lutheran church at Trosky. Following their marriage they lived in Pipestone until 1975 when they moved to Slayton. Alice worked in the kitchen at West Elementary School for four years and at the Murray county Fair for 14 summers. Alice passed away on March 26, 2005, at her home at the age of 77. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and belonged the Ladies Aid and previously belonged to St. Paul's Lutheran church in Pipestone. She also belonged to the Pipestone Legion Auxiliary. Alice and LeRoy enjoyed Sunday evening dances at the Worthington Ballroom, traveling and spending time in their camper.
Survivors include her husband Leroy, Slayton; five children and their spouses: Tom and Cheryl Brockberg, Mankato, MN; Jim and Bonnie Brockberg, West Des Moines, IA; Bill Brockberg, Plymouth, MN; Faye and Bill Mollenhauer, Andover, MN and Mark and Kristi Brockberg, LaCrosse, WI; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; one brother Wally and his wife Lois Thorson; and one sister-in-law Emma Thorson, Luverne, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Harley Thorson.
Funeral services are at Trinity Lutheran Church, Slayton, MN on Wednesday, March 30, 2005, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. John T. Stern officiating. The organist is Kathy Schwartz. Special music by Rev. Charles Boeder. The pallbearers are her family. Interment is at Slayton Memorial Gardens, Slayton, MN.
