Hello Chris,
Though I'm not a Lamp family or surname expert, I do travel a lot to Germany and puruse phone books for "Lamparski" my mother's maiden name. Her family was from Poland; and I have located and found them. In looking through the GE phone books, I do not see many "Lamp"'s; it's Lamp+++. My GUESS is that Lamp is short for something else. With some hard work, tracing your tree, you might be able to find out who.
