I am also researching Joseph LaMotte. He owned land and a store in Vincennes IN and I have found the original probate records which allude to the land he owned NW of Vincennes, which is believed to be around Palestine, IL near the Wabash River. He was supposed to have had a trading post in that area as well. The story is that the Indians became angry at him, killed him and threw his body into what is now known as Lamotte Creek, at the south edge of Palestine. My quest is to locate the property on which the trading post was located. Any info regarding this would be very much appreciated.
