Clan Lamont (Scottish) versus Huguenot (French) roots?

As I trace my ancestry back (so far to Charles Lamont in Southampton, England, mid 1800s) I keep wondering about whether the Clan Lamonts and the Huguenot roots are completely separate and coincidentally the same name, or whether there is a connection from one to the other. Has anyone figured out this connection?

One aspect that is puzzling is whether the Clan Lamonts were Catholic (like many of the Scots) while the Huguenots were by definition Protestant. Is that a reason for why they might be unrelated? Or might that explain why one group split off?
