Dear Curtis, Thank you for this information! It allowed me to find Martha Freeman Lamkin's obit:

Augusta Chronicle, September 9, 1913: "Funeral yesterday of Mrs. Mattie E. Lamkin: The funeral of Mrs. Mattie E. Lamkin, widow of the late William Lamkin, was held yesterday from the Marvin M.E. Church at Evans, GA. Rev. G.M. Whitaker officiating. The interment was in the Marvin Cemetery. The services were notable for the large attendance, the deceased being well-known. She was 63 years of age. Those who acted as pallbearers were: Messrs. Jewett Davidson, Fred Gray, John West, Allie Gray, Vernon Hendley and Crawford Walton."

Well known, and a large funeral, but no mention of relatives... odd.

I can't, so far, find anything on Beryl Lulu Lamkin. I was hopeful that finding something on either Mattie or Lulu might led to more clues about Wm Booker Lamkin, Jr. Do you know what became of Beryl Lulu?

How very odd, that he would change his name so totally? Why Cushman, do you think? I know of no Cushman relationship to these folks. Something drastic has to occur, I would think, for someone to do that.

I would love to hear any more of Augustus's poems. I was quite taken with the few I read. And when I get a chance, I'll try to see if there is anything else I can find.

Thanks so much! All the best, Ginga Mylius
