According to information another researcher posted on the LDS FamilySearch website under a Pedigree Resource File,Lewis ab Lewis Lamkin and Mary Elizabeth Hart were married in Nash Co., NC, on 18 March 1817.I don't know the source for this fact, but considering that an exact date is given, it is probably correct. This would definitely rule out Lewis and Mary being the parents of Benjamin H. Lamkin since he was born in 1800, and there would be no reason for his middle name to be Hart.
To answer another of your questions, Benjamin's branch of the family was white. There were very few Lamkins living in Gwinnett Co. during his lifetime.I have seen only one Lamkin family in the county who was African-descent, listed in the 1870 census:Terry (25), Hasty (19), John (3), Hut (2), and Louiza (2 mo.).They were listed as household 445 in the Pinckneyville PO district. The only two other Lamkin households listed in 1870 were Benjamin and his oldest son James, both in Lawrenceville.
