For Gloria and all others researching the Lamiell(e)s: here is the information I know about Pierre Joesph Lamielle:
Gloria, your Nicholas Eugene was the son of Jean Claude Lamielle and M. Francoise VIOLAND. He was born in 1854 in Louisville, OH and died there in 1898.
His father, Jean Claude, was the youngest son of Pierre Joseph LAMIELLE. Jean Claude was born in the commune of Romagny-sous-Rougemont, in the Canton of Masseveaux, in the Arrondissement of Belfort, in the Department of Haut Rhin, in the former province of Alsace, on 31 Mar 1830. He died on 9 Feb 1910 in Louisville. He was brother to my great-grandfather, Jaques (James) Joseph LAMIELLE (b. 25 Dec 1827, Romagny; d. Aug 1904 in Berryville OH).
Other siblings were:
Marie Catherine Francoise 1816-?
Marie Josephine (born & died in 1819)
Marie Francoise 1820-1868
Nicholas 1822-1906
Jacques 1824-1825
Marie Louise 1825-1826
Marie Catherine Melanie 1831-1910
All were born in Romagy, and all except the three who died as infants made the trip to the U.S. with their parents. They arrived New York on board the ship "Othello" on June 8, 1833 and went directly to Louisville, Ohio where a French settlement had been established in 1828.
Their parents were: Pierre Joseph LAMIELLE and Marie Francoise MATHEY.Pierre was born in Romagny on Aug 7, 1792.He was a Tailor and a farmer. He married M. Francoise on Dec 28, 1815.Pierre's death in America is still a mystery. He appears on the 1840 census in Nimishillen Twp., Stark Co., OH.His administration (estate settlement) documents are dated 1841; this means he died in late 1840 or sometime in 1841.Family lore says that he went West to find land and drowned in the river while trying to rescue a woman who had fallen overboard while doing her laundry.I don't know which river, where, or exactly when.
Pierre's sibling were:
Joseph b. 1784, d. 1808 in the service of Napoleon's army
Anne Marie, b 1786
Marguerithe, b. 1788, d. 1853
Marie Anne, b. 1790, d.1843
Catherine, b. 1795, d. 1826
Francois, b. 1798
Jean Pierre, born & died 3 Mar 1800
Marie, b. 1801
All were born in Romagny, and none came to the U.S. except Pierre.[I have reason to believe, however, that Francois's son, also Francois (b. 1822), did come to the U.S. and died in Louisville in 1881.]
Their parents were Jacques LAMIEL and Marie Anne MANG.
Jacques was baptized in Romagny in 1761, married in 1782, and died in Romagny in 1808.
His parents were Abraham LAMIEL and Catherine ROUPPE.Abraham was baptized in 1736, married in 1758, and died in 1797, all in Romagny.
Abraham's parents were Ursanne LAMIEL and Antoinette MAIRE.Ursanne was baptized in 1712.I do not have a marriage date or a death date for him.
His parents were Claude Etienne LAMIEL and Marguerithe CHRESTIEN.I have no birth, baptism, or marriage dates for Claude, but he died in 1712, one month Ursanne's birth.I haven't been able to trace back any further.
