Nell Sarah Lambert, 89, passed away Sunday, September 27, 2009, at the Wellmont Hospice House in Bristol, TN, after an extended illness. Born on April 25, 1920, in Cedar Bluff, VA, Mrs. Lambert was a daughter of the late Della and Lee Lambert. Making her home in Baltimore, MD, during the early years of her life, Mrs. Lambert was a nurse at Spring Grove Psychiatric Hospital. She retired and moved to Bristol in 1981 and continued private nursing for several more years. In addition to her nursing career while in Baltimore, Mrs. Lambert also enjoyed providing entertainment for a variety of events and occasions on the Chesapeake Bay with her country music band, Miss Nellie and the Country Drifters. During the past year, knowing that her time was limited due to her severe heart and lung disease, Mrs. Lambert became passionate about singing on the stage at Carter’s Fold before she died. She spent many joyful hours thinking about and practicing for this event with the help and encouragement of dear friends Linda Barker, Jerry and Debbie Powers, Wayne Powers, and friends and musicians, Gene Price and Ruby Gilbert. Although her progressive illness prevented her from realizing her dream, in addition to her nursing and music careers, Mrs. Lambert was a devoted mother to her two children who survive her, Larry Greer and Sharon Morrison. She was predeceased by a son, Jerry Alan Greer. In addition to her son and parents, Mrs. Lambert was predeceased by three brothers, Kenneth Lambert, Harold Lambert, and James Lambert; she was married to the late Henry Carter Greer and the late Robert Lambert. Survivors are her two children, Larry Greer and Sharon Morrison; sister, June Bradley; brothers, Joe Lambert and wife Helen, and Doug Lambert and wife Jenny; beloved niece and friend, Karen Cook and her children Brooke, Adam, and Madison; and a number of other nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. Mrs. Lambert had a large number of home health caregivers and health providers in the hospitals and rehab centers who gave her outstanding and loving care, for which she and her family are so very grateful. A memorial service will be held at Carter’s Fold at a later date. For those interested, the information will be posted on the website of Farris Funeral Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a charity of choice or to the Morrison School Endowment Fund.
