I have been trying to trace my Lord roots for a number of years with little success but recently discovered the reason why. My ancestor Robert Lord was born circa 1830 in Preston, Lancashire. He married Henrietta McCrone and in the 1860s moved to Middlesborough, N Yorkshire. I could never find him in Lancashire, his marriage or his birth. Recently I found Henrietta's marriage to Robert Lambert (1848 Lancaster).
Since then I have found the family on the 1851 & 41 census in Lancashire. He was the son of Jeremiah Lambert and Betty. Is anyone out there researching the same family or who can shed any light as to why the family name was changed to Lord in the 1860s. I am intreaged but dont know where to look next. Can anyone help?
