Lambe Family Genealogy Forum
Dear Margaret....Very nice to hear from you!! It sounds as if we are about 6th cousins! Interestingly, there has been some confusion as to whether her name was Justina or Jestina! All I know is that she was the eldest of the 4 children of Edward Brackenbury and Eliza Lambe. I am in the office right now so dont have all the documentation with me, but I do have a copy of the marriage certificate of Agnes Lambe Brackenbury and Lewis Leon James, my gr gr grandparents who were married on April 15, 1870 at the Registrar's Office, Fitzroy, Melbourne, Australia. Furthermore, I found the entries for the 4 Brackenburys on the ship's list of passengers, together with Lewis Leon James. I do not know whether they met on the boat, but I suspect that they did, given their ages etc. or wether they knew each other from before. I also have the birth certificates of the 3 surviving children of Agnes (nick name was Jessie) and Lewis - 2 others died in infancy. I would love to know more about your ancestors....Is there a typo in Jestina's husband's name? Also, very coincidental that one of his middle names was James - my gr gr grandfather's surname!! Eliza Brackenbury was a witness to one of Agnes and Lewis's children birth....I wonder what happened to her and her brother John......I bet we could find out from the records in Melbourne!! Also, there are several Brackenburys in the phone book in Melbourne....I wonder whether one is a descendant??!! Would love to know the line of descent from Mason (?) and Jestina. Do you have a copy of the marriage cert.? If so, that may well have a witness and woudl definitley confirm the parents of each. Look forward to hearing from you. Do e-mail me on:
All the best, George Cooke
