I found a reference today which might assist you. I have not followed it up yet, but I plan to.

The Maryland Historical Society's list of materials mentions under Tombstones, Washington County, MD: Col. William Lamar tomb - in Cumberland, MD, no date, two prints, no negatives. Apparently there are photos of a tombstone which may be his.
