G.T. Lamar, son of William S. Lamar and Rebecca Geer

I have seen posted on sights that G.T. Lamar, son of William S. and Rebecca Geer Lamar of Perry County, Indiana, died on 12 October, 1884. The fact is, he was married at the age of 37 years to Elizabeth Jeffries/Jeffers on this date in Spencer County, Indiana. This was his third marriage. Hopefully, he did not die on his wedding day.

I believe this G.T. Lamar is my gg-grandfather. He went by the name of Thomas Lamar, and married my gg-grandmother, Elizabeth Cox, about 1869, believe to be in Grayson County, Kentucky. Their marriage license has not been found. (The courthouse in Grayson Co. burned several times, the last time in the 1890's. I have been told that there is not any existing marriage records prior to the last fire.) Thomas and ELizabeth are found on the 1870 Butler County, KY census, in the home of William Cardwell.
G.T. Lamar signed as surety for John T. Johnson to marry Emaline Cox Decker, sister of Elizabeth, on 30 Sept, 1871 and signed as G.T. Lamar as a witness to the marriage ceremony on 1 October, 1871. Elizabeth Lamar signed the consent by Evaline to the County Clerk to issue a license for her to marry John Johnson.

G.Thomas and Elizabeth Lamar had three children born within an eight year period. His first child, Charles William, was, I believe, named after Thomas' and Elizabeth's fathers. The second child, was a daughter, Matilda Elizabeth (my g-grandmother), and their third son was named Powell ( probably a connection to the Spencer Co.-Perry Co. Indiana Powells). After the birth of the 3rd child, Elizabeth was admitted to the asylum in Hopkinsville and we believe she died there before 1900 (we are trying to verify this). Thomas returned to Indiana and abandoned his children. The children were raised by two differnt families that I know of. The boys referred to themselves as "orphans".

If anyone has any idea of what name the "G" represented, I would really like to know. I had thought of George, Grant, or Goble. I am also searching for the other wife. I do not know if Elizabeth was his first or second wife. And, too, I am searching for his date of death and where
G.T. is buried.

I hope some cousin out there can help. G.T. has been a brick wall for 30 years now.
Thanks,
Linda J.
