I am seeking information on a Henry G. Lamar of Ga. who attended the trial of James Thomas Holland in New York City for the shooting death of Thomas Davis. Holland, who was a Texan, was aquitted of murdering Davis. The trial started Feb. 25, 1886 and ended Mar. 6, 1886. The New York papers mentioned Henry G. Lamar was a friend of Holland and having travel to NYC to support his friend. One paper said Lamar was a cousin of Mirabeau Lamar the President of the Texas Republic. The trial was a national sensation at the time and was reported in most every daily. Holland was in his early thirties at the time of his trial. I want to determine the relationship between Holland and Lamar. James Holland had an older brother, William, who was an attorney and had attended Cumberland University in TN. There is a tradition in the family that the Holland brothers became attorneys and returned to Texas after competing their studies. James Holland did not attend Cumberland University. My thought was that Henry G. Lamar and James T. Holland may have been school friends. Holland, if he attended a university, would have attended in the late 1860's or early to mid 1870's.
