I am descended from a George Washington Layman/Laymans/Lemon as well. However, my great grandfather was born near Sequatchie County TN in the mid 1870's. Interestingly enough, he DID have a (twin) brother named Thomas Jefferson Laymon who was killed at the Battle of Chickamauga. George and Thomas' father was Mitchell Layman/Lemon.
Small world indeed.
I would love to hear from anyone researching this Tennessee line as it is difficult to research all the variant spellings of the name.
Thanks,
Donna Sadler Doty
