From a book I have called "The Genealogy of the First Metis Nation" edited by Sprague and Frye and the 1870 census chart within that book I have a Louis Laliberte, son of Antoine. Antoine's I.D.# was 2560,recorded as living in the parish of St. Norbert. Aforementioned Louis was 18 years old at that census and had a brother Lin who was 21 years old.
In the table of Genealogy of Red River Households 1818-1870, same book,as well asAntoine ID#2560 born 1808, there is a son of Antoine #2558 born 1839, and Baptiste another son #2556 born 1850. Antoine Sr's dad was ID#2561 on that census and his name was Pierre (born 1776 in Canada) ID#2561. The others mentioned were born in RRSettlement. All were Metis and Roman Catholic except Pierre where a blank exists as to his race.
I wonder if Antoine and Joseph were brothers or if Alexis and one of these Antoines are brothers. They are both in the right age range. I have been told recently that there was an Antoine in the Meadow Lake-Green Lake area of Sask. who was possibly a brother to Alexis. This is where Lazare, one of Alexis sons went to in the early 1900's.
Can anyone confirm this relationship of Alexis and Antoine (which one?) being brothers? or maybe cousins?
P.S, My French is very limited, can read it with a good translation dictionary nearby, cannot speak it but understand some. I will be checking out the site you suggested. Thanks greatly.
