Hello, Mike!
Yes, i definitely believe there must be a connection between our families.First of all, Kilmacolm during that time period was a small village of about 300 or so people. It was common for brothers of one family to marry sisters of another, etc.
So far, the only LAIRD / HOLM connection i have been able to make is between HELEN LAIRD and JOHN HOLM.HELEN did have a brother JAMES, born 1758 in Kilmacolm, but this James Laird would be too old to be the father of your JANE LAIRD, who was born in 1827.
It seems we are missing the intervening generation.Frankly, it is MADDENING!
Unfortunately, from what i have been able to glean from contacts in Scotland, there are no LAIRDs left in the Kilmacolm area. Many of them migrated elsewhere.Quite a few to America, i would suspect.
Can you tell me in what area of America your relatives settled? If they settled near members of "my" Laird family, it would be an encouraging sign.Of course, by 1852, my direct ancestors were firmly established in this country, living in several states, including CALIFORNIA, since that time period included the Gold Rush.
Any of the following familiar?
Kern County, California
Lanark, Carroll County, Illinois
Mount Carroll, Carroll County, Illinois
Freedom Twp., Carroll County, Illinois
Tazewell County, Illinois
Winnebago County, Illinois
Dearborn County, Indiana
Shelby County, Indiana
Marshal County, Iowa
Wayne Twp., Henry County, Iowa
Hale Twp., Jones County, Iowa
Clay County, Kansas
Warren County, Ohio
Braymer Twp., Caldwell County, MO
Looking forward to hearing from you.
