Hi Angela,
I realise this is over a year after you posted this, but if you're still stuck, I can unstick you!First, I am a direct descendant of William's father, George.Second, see the 1881 census for Ontario, specifically:
District 174 Centre Huron, subdistrict Tuckersmith, Division 1, page 20, line 3.These are William's parents and siblings. This is not the whole story however.Third, see the following:
This was actually George's SECOND marriage.(He was widowed in 1859 ~ I descend from the first marriage, only son Andrew, also two sisters Jane and Agnus). As far as I can tell, he (George) moved from Esquesing twp. Halton County (Ontario) to Tuckersmith Twp. Huron Cty. about 1865.That was when he married Mary McEwing.I know only about one of William's full siblings, Ellen or Ella, as she later married John Smith of Seaforth, and they had 3 children:
George, Robert (Bob), and Mae Smith.See the website:
http://www.linneberg.com/skye/smith2.htmlhttp://www.linneberg.com/skye/smith2.htmlfor details of this.I met Mae and Bob (neither married) - lovely, hospitable people - my paternal grandmother's cousins. I've traced (with much help from fellow researchers!) my direct line back to Will 'O Phaup in Ettrick, Selkirkshire, Scotland.I will gladly provide further info if you or anyone would like, though the line has been pretty well documented.Cheers!
