LAFRENIERE/PIETE DE LAFRENIERE

I HAVE BEEN READING MANY INTERESTING MESSAGES AND POSTINGS IN THE GENEALOGY FORUM...I'M ALSO TRYING TO CONTINUE WITH MY FAMILY TREE, HOWEVER MANY OF MY RESOURCES ARE LIMITED, SO I WAS WONDERING IF ANYONE HAD ANY ADVICE? MY MAIDEN NAME IS LAFRENIERE, AND I KNOW IT IS A LARGE FAMILY. MY PEPERE WAS LOUIS J. (JOSEPH I.) LAFRENERE, MARRIE TO EMMA CARIGNAN. HE WAS BORN IN NEW BEDFORD,MA IN JULY 1900. I BELIEVE HIS FATHER WAS FROM ST. OURS IN CANADA (UNSURE WHICH PROVINCE..ALTHOUGH PROBABLY QUEBEC). HE HAD 5 OR 6 SISTERS...HIS MOTHER WAS MARIE LOUISE FRICHETTE. I HAD BEEN TOLD THAT THE THE FAMILY NAME USED TO BE PIETE DE LAFRENIERE A LONG TIME AGO WHEN THE FAMILY CAME FROM FRANCE...I DON'T KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS EVER HEARD OF THIS NAME? MY GREAT GRANDFATHER'S NAME WOULD HAVE ALSO BEEN JOSEPH LAFRENIERE, I WAS TOLD HE WAS A FURTRAPER IN ST.OURS CANADA, AND THAT HE MARRIED FULL BLOODED INDIAN WOMAN. ALL I KNOW OF HER IS THAT WHEN SHE WAS BAPTIZED SHE WAS GIVEN THE NAME MARIE. ANY HELP IS EXTREMLEY APPRECIATED.
